If you are a customer of Queen Bee, you probably already made the connection. We eat through our skin. This morning, while being interviewed for Edible San Juan magazine, the writer said… “imagine each little pore as an open mouth”. It is true. Think of a morphine or nicotine patch, birth control, etc. Taking a bath in epsom salts, your muscles absorb the magnesium sulphate. It is a good analogy to help you become more aware that the toxins that exists in your skin care might be something to replace in your life.
All you need to do is read the labels. If you don’t know what it is, you probably don’t need to use it clean, exfoliate or moisturize your skin. So today, we whipped out a couple old recipes from our archives to help you give your skin a little extra love. (Rhoda, this one is for you!)
Chocolate Souffle
2 teaspoons half & half
1 teaspoon cocoa powder
Combine two parts whipping cream or half & half and one part powdered chocolate (any brand or raw cacao). Use a small whisk or fork. We made a tiny bath by using a dollop of leftover whipping cream and adding stirring in the cacao.
Apply mask with a pastry brush or your fingers. Apply a thick layer. Remove just before it dries. You will notice your skin feels super-clean, tighter and slightly bronzed.
The lactic acid in the cream eats away dead skin. The caffeine in the cocoa tightens and firms the skin leaving a slightly bronzed appearance from the brown color.
Note: The mask gets harder to remove if completely dry, but doesn’t harm the skin in any way. You will want to use a dark wash cloth and lots of water to remove. We like to use this mask in the bath or before a shower so that you can let it dry and wash it away with just water and your hands versus an abrasive towel.
